First, we need this tech in the reality. This is a usual problem with prototypes: Hard to tell beforehand, which one will scale to mass production. Second, I agree with Badgenome, that some big games have to hit. I don't think such a smartphone will get Zelda.
But, if this tech becomes reality, I may get my first smartphone (so far I'm OK with a normal cell phone). With real buttons I could type mails on the go, that would be a killer-app for me. So, I hope this tech will become reality in not too long time. Hopefully less than 5 years.
