That's not really true.
We know that it is possible for some games to be played solely on the screen on the WiiU controller. That means that someone could watch TV while another person plays a game. I don't know how many games will take advantage of this, if any.
However, the controller is not a stand alone unit. The WiiU console streams data to the controller. The controller can not be used on its own.
I can definitely see a new Pokemon Snap coming to the WiiU. We have already seen some demos of using the controller to look around a game world. That would fit perfect with that game. We will just have to wait and see if a full Pokemon game comes to the WiiU.
