Looking at current state of console to PC ports, was Resident Evil 4 PC really that bad?

People only hated RE4 PC because it was a bad PS2 port. And no mouse support. People would have liked it better if it was a port of the GameCube version (which used a wider color pallet and had twice the polygons for models).
