 360 had a year head start in America in Japan and a year and a half in Europe. Considering they both sold ~150m software last year, I'd say the difference is almost all because of the headstart.

which is irrelevent. Its not like the headstart will magically disappear when all is said and done. The 360 came out a year early and had an extra year in the market and it will always have that extra year. Time will tell what that means towards the longetivity of the console but it's no one's fault but sony's that it joined the race late. And considering 360's software lead has been growing every year, you can't even say the ps3 is catching up.
