I think that was more a DS lite problem. I am not sure. It wasn't a major isssu, but it was one of the few notable problems about DS. 

Yep, it was the DSLite that had the hinge problem. The DSPhat was a monster... nothing could destroy that beast haha.

As for the "loose" hinge, my 3DS (launch day) has a little movement when I move it around. Not enough to affect anything, but it is noticable. My sister's 3DS (got it for Christmas) is much sturdier.

So for the OP: If you can go and replace it with a new one, but if you can't then it's not really a big deal.
