The game would have to have been fundamentally redesigned to achieve that, and then what would we have had?

I'll tell you what we would have had. A game that plays as perfect as Ocarina of Time. A game I wouldn't have to swing a Wiimote around when I just want to press buttons.
Look, I'm not saying the motion controls don't work. They work. They aren't perfect, but they work. All I'm saying is I don't see the point of motion controls in Zelda. I don't want a sword simulator, I want an adventure game.
Let me ask you this. Why did Nintendo feel the need to fundimentaly change the Zelda formula for Skyward Sword when the gameplay and controls had been perfect in the previous games?
I like the game, but every time I play it I can't help but think I'd love the game if it played like Zelda OoT.

Not sure when it was, but aenouda or whatever his name is , said a few days ago (saw it on twitter of course) that motion control will follow Link to his next Zelda adventure. People like it so much that this is what they are going to do now.
You did not enjoy it that much? I liked it a lot, but I would have been happy with pressing buttons as well. But if they was the case then I would have expected an entirely different Zelda game too.
Many people have played this game then gone back to OoT or OoT3D and just do not enjoy the button pressing anymore. I do not think that would be the case for me, but for some it is.

I'm just an old schooler who doesn't like change. And i'm lazy and don't want to swing my arm around to playg ames. I like to veg-out in an easy chair and play Zelda the way I used to. With Skyward Sword I find myself leaning forward so my arm has room to swing a bit, even though most of the tim I just waggle it and it works.
The most anoying part the Wiimote is it's not as easy to munch on snacks as it is with a regular controler. You can't just let go and feed your face while your other hand takes over.
I doubt I'll ever prefer motion controls over classic controls.
