If this is true, I'm willing to bet that the next Xbox won't just be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games, it will seamlessly play them like how a PC from 2011 plays PC games from 1999. My guess is that Halo 4 will release for Xbox 360, but work perfectly with the next Xbox releasing at the same time.
With that said, I doubt MS would release a new machine next year. 2013 is the earliest I think they'd do it.
