Because Metroid is honestly not that big a series. The dozen or so games in the series, spanning several genres, have sold 15 or 16 million units since the 80's. That's less than either of the Wii Fit games, Pokemon generations 1, 2, and 4, Super Mario Bros, Land, New, or Wii, and bloody Brain Age. And considering how Other M may or may no ever reach a million sales, I doubt that the anniversary would be a big deal to most gamers.
