Sidewalks are mostly found in crowded areas where people would expect cars to begin with. This is more crucial for those areas without any sort of sidewalks where you actually walk on the road.

That is why, whenever you are walking on a road, you always do it against the traffic direction.

That only works as long as the road is broad enough to support two lines of traffic.

Then you shouldn't be walking on the road
