This is really sad 
The GameDB would be nothing without him. He was an extremely hardworking and friendly person. I'm sure he wouldn't leave without good reason.
I hope he can get through his current troubles, and perhaps even come back to work for the site again, but that's secondary to just hoping that he's okay
