| *Sound Of Rain said: Could anyone make a system and release it next gen and have success? I personally think that the following 4 publishers could make a system to some success: Ranked by chances of success from low to high. #4) Sega__Sega could get back into the system business do to them having previous experience, and it would be hyped up do to old Sega fans wanting a return for years. The only problem is would people welcome back the older Sega franchises as well as trust Sega after DreamCast was taken off the market so early. I also think that times of changed since 1999. I think that a DreamCast like system could have the potential to do well in todays market like the Wii. #3) EA__ EA has the potential to do well in the system market because it has all of the major sports games as well as the sims. Games like Madden, and Fifa have the potential to sell systems not to mention BattleField, Dead Space, and Mass Effect. All of these franchises are probably going to increase in sales with each new game as they all have potential to grow. #2) Capcom__Capcom could see a level of success with franchises such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter continues to grow in Japan and has potential in America and Europe...Capcom would need to be a success in Japan for this to happen.(It can't be Microsoft and sell well without Japan) #1) Activision__Crash Bandicoot & Spyro together would take over the market! LOL...just kidding we all know that Call Of Duty would allow Activision to have their own system. Call Of Duty has becaome a HUGE franchise bigger than Halo. We all know that Halo was the main reson for the 1st XBox's success...COD could do the same for Activision. This could also push Microsoft to fall... |
Sega got rid of 95% of their hardware business is gone and they don't have the capital to rebuild it. To get into the console market today you need billions in capital for R&D and marketing Sega are to poor.
EA doesn't need or want their own hardware platform and given their sports licences require them to be on all platforms anyway. Origin is the closest thing to a platform they will ever have.
Capcom are to poor and have nothing to gain but everything to lose none of their franchises are mega faranchises (10 million+) on a global scale. An atempt at a console would kill them.
Activision COD is all they have on consoles and would probably be the only game that would sell well on their platform and exclusivity for anything but Xbox would kill the franchise, half of their revenue comes from Blizzard PC games and they won't work on consoles and you don't want to piss off 12 million gamers when you move WoW onto a console.
The only ones that have the neccessary capital and market imact ATM are
Apple as they can leverage apps on their platform and we will likely see it when the next apple TV launches.
And Samsung who have large hardware manufacturing and distrabution networks including semiconductor fabs, have many of the same reasons as Sony to be in the business (pushing high end TVs etc) and most importantly the billions of $$$ needed to push into the market.
