I may be wrong here, but where does the OP state that it's opinion only? The original Mummy is a timeless classic and pretty much one of the first horror films (at least one of the founders of the "monster" theme movies, just like Nosferatu, Dracula and Frankenstein). The mummy trilogy (of which the original mummy is an almost direct remake) is pretty much just summer popcorn flicks (I enjoyed the first two, but only because I'm an egyptian mythology fan).

There's nothing wrong with your opinion about the remakes being better than the originals (at least you don't go around calling them shit or anything), but I thought that this thread was also supposed to ask what movies were critically recieved better than the originals.

The OP doesn't say it isn't opinion neither, or that it's on critical acclaim

I just assumed this is like a "What do you think is better" thread, so I answered that way.

I really, really enjoyed The Mummy. It has good action, good comedy and great characters. It's just... A great  family enjoyable film. I love it!
