Before Mario Kart Wii launched... I believe so, yes; people thought that GT was gonna sell more...

But that was a good 2-3 years ago. Once Mario Kart became one of Wii's killer app and Gran Turismo was pushed back x amount of years, I think people finally realized Mario Kart would be the victor saleswise.
