Used to be more popular a few years back. The show, for a strange reason, was aimed at kids emitting during lunch time. It was a huge success... you saw shinchan everywhere. Thanks to it, many of the movies are showing up over here.
First time I saw this show, I glanced at the TV, and this kid was on top of a classroom table swinging his "elephant". I was baffaled by this cartoon emitting at that hour xD
