I don't get it... I just watched a replay of the Nintendo conference on their site. Unless I missed something, Wii wasn't even mentioned during the whole conference! (Zelda SS and a golden remote being mentioned out of context is all I saw...)

Did I black out and miss something??

I mean somebody who didn't know any better might have watched the whole thing and not even notice Wii existed as a Nintendo product.... WTF???

What do you mean? The Wiimote was front and center through much of the presentation. Only now you're going to hook it up with an iPad instead of a TV.

I'm not sure if you're joking, but Wiimote is not the same as Wii console... that's like saying gamecube still lives because the Wii is compatible with its controller...
Was footage of a single game for Wii actually shown at all??

The Kirby trailer, at the least, is fantastic. Skyward Sword trailer is nice too, of course.

Kirby looks good. New Skyward Sword trailer just BLEW MY MIND. Looks like it's gonna be an AMAZING game!!

But I have to say overall, as an owner of a Wii only, I found the presentation quite disappointing. Announcing new hardware is always cool but the main attraction should always be software. I'm not falling for that same trick again where - like with the wiimote - the 'possible new experiences' are what sell the console... The Wii had a lot of potential new games/ways to interact shown when it came out, but most of the ideas that were shown never left the drawing board, or were only realized as mini-games.

If you are an owner of a 3DS then I think Nintendo did a phenomenal job, with so many games coming this year, and with so many cool features like multi-player in starfox and kid icarus.

But how many people own a 3DS? like, 5 million?? VS. about 90 million Wii owners who were shown nothing? Is there no such thing as recognition (better yet, gratitude) from a company to its audience for giving it its most successful console ever??

This essentially (for me at least) contradicts everything Nintendo have ever said about 'being about the software'... To me the impression was obviously that 'software is a means to sell hardware' and not the other way around as it should be... That feels like a betrayal of a pretty fundamental value to me...

I sincerely hope some deeper games are announced for Wii before the week is over.

It would seem that you are just now realizing that Nintendo is still a company first and foremost. Their strategy is clear. They've survived the past couple years with limited software on the Wii and they believe they can do it one last time before the Wii U comes out. Don't they have a new Just Dance game coming out for Wii? That game should be on pace to sell tons. As for the Wii U they want to bring in the demographic that didn't buy the original Wii. They also looked at their biggest seller which is the DS and made the Wii into a bigger DS kinda like what Apple did in creating the iPad from the iPod touch. As for no DS announcements, I don't think it needed it as the DS is outselling the 3DS. They don't want that to continue! All in all their strategy makes sense but it sucks for those not ready to upgrade to a 3DS right now and those looking for some great new games for the Wii leading up to the Wii U. I think the thing that makes the Wii drought seem so bad is Nintendo fans can't really count on 3rd party software as much.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
