I think the 3DS controls can fix all the control issues of Metroid Other M

No, in first person mode you dodge by shaking the Wii remote.  Shooting is done with the A button.

are you sure of this?? I don't remember anything about shaking the Wii remote in Other M. I'm pretty sure dodging in first person is the same as in third person, i.e. using the D-pad. Tilting the remote upwards to face the ceiling also works for concentrating in both points of view...

Yep, give it a try.  It only works right before you are about to get hit.  I don't think the game ever actually tells you this though.
