I found this matter interesting when it came out on GDC. Reggie previously had some comments on mobile games devaluing their value, and Iwata concerned with the avalanche of apps in which 90% are free.

I really don't think there is much concern. I myself see iOS as flash games that you pay to use offline. Sure there are exceptions with apps that have gripping story, graphics or gameplay that can last for hours. But the big hitters are those one trick bite-sized games that even I enjoy! Those types games have existed before and they didn't implode the game industry. Though I can see Iwata's wake up call with 300,000 content made available at a standard price of 1$ or free, how many of those developers can make a living?
