are you kidding me?  Walk into the nearest college campus and tell me how many DS's you see.  Here's a hint for you, LOTS.  There's free wi-fi at all colleges and practically all over the place now days.

This isn't a debate its a fact that online play has become a HUGE part of gaming and will only become more and more prevalant over the next 5 years.  If the 3DS still lacks a good solid way to track your friends online and jump into games with them its a bad business choice.

How can you say you honestly would prefer to walk around and get imaginary coins more than having a good, solid, centralized online experience with game tracking?  Don't get me wrong the coins thing might end up being cool too but not near as important as centralized ID.

because we all goto college right? That's a piss poor arguement, come up with something more practical. It'd just be in your pocket with the lid closed as you are walking, you don't need to be playing a game.

Your arguement sucks. I thought there was free internet in airports, most hotels, most cafes(heck even Mcdonalds), restaraunts, etc.  Online gaming is becoming more prevalent, even on handhelds. What about people who do not live in very populated areas, or people who live in cities/ town that are spread out, making walking to where you need to go, impossible? Why wouldn't you want a centralized online id anyways? By your logic, why even have any online in a portable.

what does walking have to do with an online id? a more practical solution is 3G support, then the online ID would make sense for that portable. running around looking for free wifi spot is just dumb, might as well stay home and play your games there then, don't need a 3DS for that at all.

It has everything to do with walking. If the only way to add someone to your friends, is walking by them, then that is stupid. What about the people who live in spread out areas, where you cannot walk everywhere you need to go? 3g would be nice, but not going to happen. The problem with your arguement is, that it is hard to find wifi spots, but in reality(at least in the USA) it is fairly easy. You are practically suggesting that there is no need for online gaming in handhelds, which I obviously disagree with. imo, not having online ids, is  "just dumb."
