It may not decide the winner, but it has a huge impact. I do believe that price may have been to blame for for majority of the ps3's early woes(coupled with a lack of good exclusive games) , but I still think the wii would have sold better than the ps3 by an insane amount as it has. Ps3 has lost contol of the Americas because of the rise of the 360, which can be attributed to Sony's insanely priced console, a years headstart by the 360, and a series of poor choices. I believe if the ps3 launched at $350- $400 it would be in second (getting owned by the wii). Of course this is just a speculation over an event that did not happen making my guesses utterly useless.
