GT5 Launch in Japan :

Nice, I also like those boxes in the background with logitech logos...should be great sales for all

BIG sales in Japan next week for PlayStation 3.

If it beats Wii next week as well, then PS3 would have outsold Wii in Jp for 2010 (number of weeks above the other)...who would have expected that at the start of the year right?

Maybe many haven't expected that at the start of the year (though personally I was not surprised, but that's just me), but in hindsight this is not surprising at all, I believe due to 2 primary factors:

1. Relative lack of significant games for the WIi in Japan (look at the list of major Wii games released in Japan vs. the list of PS3  games)

2. Torne. I have come to believe Torne is the factor that kept PS3 afloat above the 20k mark this year all those times when there were no major game releases, and "logically" (including looking at historical data) PS3 sales should have fallen.

What to me is surprising is that the WIi has sold as much as it did in Japan this year given the games situation... While the PS3 may win this year in total sales, the gap right now is really not much.

Aren't you just being a bit one sided with those arguments

1. Wii had many major releases this year, I don't know why people even say it didn't have games. Lack of 3rd party is a different issue, which is a problem caused by Ninty themselves maybe? And also the lack of sales in some games doesn't mean it didn't have games, it had plenty of games and they still have some big titles to be released (really don't wanna get into list wars here but wii had wii series, Mario, metroid, Kirby and soon Donkey Kong as well on their system this year...hey btw can at least you tell me if Sonic Colors released in Jp to be included in these numbers or not? I was so sure it was for these numbers)

2. Wii is still way cheaper in comparison, it's a major advantage it has over the competition.

3. Wii has also brought in many add-ons (way more than the competition even) to the table

Eitherway this is a great achievement for PS3 in Jp, you just have to agree with that....it will only get better as price goes down

Regarding games, maybe I should have said lack of major 3rd party support in Japan, not lack of major games, but the end result is the same, since 1st party by their very nature are always few with large gaps in between and cannot by themselves support a system. It really doesn't matter who if anyone is to blame for the 3rd party situation in Japan, the fact is that was the situation in a glaring way this year, and it obviously had its effect. Regardless of the Wii situation, PS3 sold considerably better than last year, and that was imo on the strength of the same 2 factors - steady stream of games Japanese people has an interest in that came out in Japan in 2010, and Torne.

I think the situation will get worse if we take a look at the amount of 3rd party games each console is getting in Japan starting from next year and onwards.
