If I remember correctly, this was due to broken streetdates by many many retailers. Sony delayed it last second and some retailers sticked to the old date and some did not.

 

Even then, those early numbers are 'added' to the first week numbers right?

the first week was actually the first and second week.

VGC reported sales of the week before  release as the sales were substanial to report

so first and 2nd week should be combined as 1st week sales

I'm sure he tried to say the same, even though it might look confusing.
