Hmm, riiiiiight.
1. Kinect is for non-gamers and family fun nights. MS knows core gamers don't want motion controlls so that's why they are marketing Kinect to Opra watchers, who love motion controlls.
2. Why wouldn't a son want to have fun together with a happy family?
3. Kinect doesn't ruin Xbox 360 so nobody is going to throw it out, if you don't want to play Kinect you can still use your controller to enjoy Halo and everything else.
4. Kinect doesn't need 20 feet. 6 to 8 is optimal, but less will still work.
5. People who buy something they think looks fun aren't sheep, they are consumers.
