You realise that in 2008 Gears 2 released and right now it's yet to have outsold Gears 1. And the Userbase difference from 2006 and 2008 were very big. So please enlighten me how Gears 2 failed to Gears 1 and why Gears 3 will be able to outsell both so quickly.
Gears of War 3 will have no troubles reaching 4 Mil in 2011. But to say 7 Mil is being stupid.
If a new COD Game comes out next year, whether it sells as much as MW2 or not isn't important. It will also outsell Gears on X360 only. Combining X360 and PS3 will definitely outsell Gears.
And stop making expections. Lol split Pokemon Games and Zelda doesn't count because you think it was coming out near the end of the year... Pointless

Why did Gears 2 sell less than Gears 1? The multiplayer for Gears 2 was a broken piece of crap and isn't much better today, that's why. It's pretty obvious.

Also because of Call of Duty and Halo. Gears 1 came out in 2006 which was before CoD4 and Halo 3. Gears 2 was 2008 and it had to compete with CoD4, World at War and Halo 3.

IMO bad multiplayer, stiffer competition and the fact that its not exactly a FPS all added up. But they have learnt from their mistakes, and they are releasing it during Q1 next year, big fish small pond style 
If it will deliver ( and it probably will) it will have a bigger debut then G2, and it might even have bigger legs. Its so cool that lately there is no dry period for games, and game sales ^_^
