If it's any consolation to the PS3 Fans, I don't think the sales situation in Japan can or will get much worse. ;)

Actually, I think you're wrong ...

The PS3 doesn't have any game releases in Japan until mid June, and only has 4 game releases for June, July and August

But two of those games will pass Musou Orochi is sales easy.

NInja Gaiden:Sigma will sell well b/c of the lack of Japanese who owned/played the game on xbox.
Hot Shots Golf 5 is coming out, and that series is HUGE in Japan.

OK, I'd like this to be the last time (it won't), but ONE (or even TWO) game(s) cannot save a system!  Sure, they may help ship a few more units, but they don't CARRY hardware, EVER.

 Don't believe me?

Halo

Halo 2

Ninja Gaiden (funny, this didn't save Xbox, but it will save PS3?)

Zelda Wind Waker

Super Smash Brothers

RE4

Mario Cart Double Dash

NONE of those games, which were all fantastic and popular, saved their respective systems from being CRUSHED by SONY.  Hardware sales will NEVER be tied to a few hit titles, but a HUGE and diverse LIBRARY will sell systems.  In the previous generation, compare Nintendo's stable of 1st party hits to Sony's 3rd party support.  On average, Ninty's games outsold every 3rd party title (on a PER game basis), but the TOTAL number of software sold by PS2 3rd party support humiliated Link, Mario, & Co.

Personally, I bought a Gamecube first, for the 1st party games, then, I bought an xbox, because it was a superior system, to enjoy all of the cross-platform games (even those that were also on the cube).  Finally, I HAD to buy a PS2 for, what?  GT 4?  FF XII?  God of War?  Nope, nope, and nope.  I wanted other games in the library, Monkey Island, Silent Hill 3, Okami, Disgaea, etc.  In short, I wanted, not the triple A, blockbuster titles, but access to the HUGE and varied library of the PS2 catalogue.

PS3's problem is that it has no catalogue!  4 games in what, 3 - 4 months is not a library, it's PATHETIC!  Only a system on LIFE support should be recieving that few new releases, not a $600 risk that the consumer is not quite ready to swallow.  Funny how the PS2's greatest strength has become the PS3's greatest weakness.  Basically, a good library is throwing dozens of games, then hundreds, at consumers until a couple of them stick.  And it won't be the same mix for every customer, that's why there need to be MORE gasmes for the PS3, and fast!  Look at the 100+ games in development for the Wii - there should be something for everyone, maybe several somethings.

Sure, I WANT to play Lair, REALLY REALLY want to play it, but if they don't start backing it up, I'm not dropping $600 for ONE game, not even 3 or 4.  I need at least 9 or 10 titles that I would consider buying before I take that kind of plunge, and looking at the sales numbers, most consumers agree with me.
