Honestly, anything from my collection will work...
Top picks based on your "collection" which doesn't seem complete at all, so most of it is arbitrary. I know you got rid of the Wii after Brawl, so I'll try to suggest newer games. All of the games fit your description of being "traditional core gamer games with polish/style and some dificulty"
- Super Mario Galaxy 2 (&1) (I think 2 is better, my brother actually thinks 1 is better. Getting all the stars in 2 gives for a great challenge)
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Best 2D platformer probably ever, unless you are butt hurt because Nintendo can't program skirt physics.
- Punch-Out!! - if you liked either the NES or SNES versions you'll love this. While the first half the game is very much like the NES original, the second half is a lot harder. Plus they have a hidden character for the best players.
- Geometry Wars: Galaxies- If you like SHMUPs this is a good game and cheap too.
- Trauma Team - haven't played it (still trying to get my brother to buy it since he got gift money specifically for this game and I lend him enough games already) but based on the previous games in the series this game is hard and fun. I've seen a lot of good reviews for it. Storyline is cheasy, but the gameplay is fun and unique.
- Little King's Story - If you liked pikmen at all (or simple real time strategy games) this is a good game. It has it's flaws (lack of pointer control), but the art style is great and the gameplay is good. So far I'm really liking this and I've beaten 1 of the 7 kings. It has it's hard moments too on normal setting.
