It's funny that everytime this chart is produced there is a fresh batch of people that are totally surprised by just how financially sound Nintendo is.

Nintendo has never posted a full year loss in over 120 years of operation and they have only every had one negative quarter. It is consistently rated one of the best companies in Japan and it's market capitalisation is (still, I think) higher than all of Sony who employs 180 000 people, verses Nintendo's paltry 4000+.

This is why it frustrates me when people say Nintendo should have done this or that this generation in order to "better compete" directly with Sony and MS for the core gamer. Nintendo have and always will do what it takes to make their company profitable which includes not taking, what they perceive to be, unecessary risks. Thankfully part of that equation is also making great games.
