There actually is a reason why we don't have a pure Flying type yet. If you would teach a flying pokemon roost, and they use that in battle, they would not be any single type for one turn. I think that messes up the games but I'm not sure. They could fix this possible error in the 5th gen onwards, just make it that the bird is ??? type for one turn and everything would just do normal damage to you. lol
