man, where did this false information stem from? The Wii Remote (without WM+) can absolutely sense depth. There are 2 beacons on the sensor bar. If the beacons are far apart, you are close to the TV, if the beacons are close together you are closer to the TV (or way to the side, but it is a relatively safe assumption that you are mostly infront of the TV). There were games near launch that used depth in their gameplay.
