If it happens that way then Nintendo has been very poorly managing their development schedules. It was understandable for them to have lots of software in the while after Wii released, because they had diverted Gamecube development towards Wii development for a strong launch. |
Nintendo has enough studios that they should be able to pump out 3-4 "big" titles for the Wii every year. Right now, we only know of 2 that will definitely make it out this year, and Galaxy reused an engine (so a much shorter dev cycle) and Metroid Other M is being developed in part by Team Ninja, so again not a lot of development resources used by Nintendo.
In 09, Nintendo had NSMBWii and Wii Sports Resort, along with a bunch of smaller (in terms of Dev work and/or sales expectations) titles such as Wii Fit Plus, Punch-Out!!, ExciteBots
In 08, Animal Crossings, Wii Music, Disaster (not in NA), Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, and Super Smash Bros Brawl.
For comparison, in 09 Sony had Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank, and inFamous all within a calandar year along with all their PSP games.
