I'm not going to complain about the review, because I haven't played the game, and it sure seems bizarre, so I can understand mixed reactions to it. I will, however, call reviewers out on one thing about this game - and that is the fact that nobody seems to be reviewing this game for what it is, but only what it isn't.

I disagree, I watched the video review and he seemed to have a perfectly good grasp of what type of game it is.  He even talks about how it used to look like an RPG, and then switched to more of an action game.

Haven't watched the video review, only went by the reviews I've read/watched, and most of them make it a point to bring up time and time again how it doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy and is not RPGish but instead an action game. As such, I personally feel it should be reviewed as an action game. I don't see reviewers docking points from DMC for not being like Final Fantasy.

That said, I haven't even played the game so I have no idea what kind of score it deserves, and I'm sure a lot of the scores it's getting are perfectly fair. I'm considering picking it up myself once it releases over here.

But you have no idea what they say just because the reader should know and what they actually take points off for.  I think it's meaningful to tell the random reader that FFCC: CB is more of an action game and not very RPGish so that they aren't confused, but you just mention it without taking off points for it.  Nowhere in the summary of their category scores did it say "didn't feel RPGish enough" they probably mention it in the body of the review without taking it into account for scoring.  I've done this myself a number of times.
