Why would it do better on a smaller userbase? Especially since NA 360 owners arent that into JRPG's so I'd argue the userbase is worse than it actually appears to be... and that takes me into my second point which is JRPGs are becoming niche. So even though the Ps3 users are more interested in them than the 360 user base I'd still say Ps3 owners arent as interested as people were 5-10 years ago.

You expect Ps3 version to sell better... so obvious the 9 million lead the 360 has wont mean much. And combined Ps3 360 sales will still be less then Ps2's.

MGS4

/argument

MGS4 sold much less tham MGS and MGS2. Most series see their sales decline after repeated iterations on the same platform: MotorStorm, Resistance, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, etc. A few series seem to be exempt: Halo, GTA, CoD, and soon Uncharted. These series do seem to have excellent sequels.

MGS2, apparently, left quite a sour taste in people's mouths, and MGS3 was the sugar that got rid of that taste. Furthermore, MGS4 got a HELL of a lot of advertising and support from Sony, and fantastic reviews and awards convinced even those new to the series to give this one a try.

FFXII, in this case, seems to have been the sour-taste-leaver, looking at the general opinion of the game.
