That 52% is misleading.
Sega released in 1989, the SNES was in 1991, two years later. So in 1993 Sega had 4 years on the market, while SNES had 2, and Nintendo had already cut their share in half. Segas sales didn't implode at all, just the SNES was so much more successful. It would be the equivalent of saying the xbox in early 2007 had much more marketshare than Nintendo, but since Nintendo released _____ and Xbox sales imploded and Wii took the lead.

Sega's sales did implode after the 32X. Before 32X, they could hold their own against the Super Nintendo. Ever since the Super Nintendo launched, it was at some points being outsold by the MegaDrive, and at some points outselling it Xbox 360 was always outsold by the Wii, not outselling it a single day except for the Halo 3 launch.
After 32X and DKC the MegaDrive was always outsold by the Super Nintendo. And the Super Nintendo sold well even in the early PS1 days.
I LOVE ICELAND!
