Sega released those add-ons as a response to the fact that Nintendo was outselling them.

It's not like Sega was kicking Nintendo in the rear, and then released the add-ons, and then lost.

Sega had 52% market share at the end of 1993. Then they released the 32X and Nintedo released Donkey Kong Country and Sega's sales imploded.

At least that's how I have understood it. May Dissolitude strike me down if I'm wrong.
