Why are y'all ignoring the GameCube? I swear, the GameCube is the most underrated console ever.
List of "core" Nintendo games on the GameCube in the first three years (published - I'm too lazy to look up developers):
Luigi's Mansion Pikmin Super Smash Bros. Melee Wave Race Eternal Darkness Metroid Prime Star Fox Adventures Super Mario Sunshine Doshin the Giant (Japan/Europe only) 1080 Avalanche F-Zero GX Kirby's Air Ride The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (plus Master Quest, etc.) Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Wario World Donkey Konga The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Mario Power Tennis Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Pikmin 2 Pokemon Colosseum

Yes, ALL of those games were released before the end of 2004, and I even left out a few like Mario Party, WarioWare, and Animal Crossing. Nintendo has only grown each generation, and that's why their N64 titles outpaced their SNES titles, as shown above, and why their GC titles outpaced their N64 titles.
That's my main issue with Nintendo this gen. Despite being larger (and richer) than ever, their release list is smaller than ever. I mean, seriously, only Punch Out, Wii Sports Resort, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii for this whole year? Are you kidding me?
Look at the GameCube. By this point in its life, we had seen a new Paper Mario, Super Mario, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, etc., PLUS new IPs like Pikmin, reinventions of old favorites like Metroid Prime, and new iterations of franchises like F-Zero, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, and WaveRace. We've gotten half of that on Wii.
Why haven't we gotten more WaveRace, Mario Tennis, or Mario Golf? Those franchises would be PERFECT for the Wiimote, but instead we get tech demos like Wii Sports Resort. They're demos of what *could* be in something like WaveRace. Why not give us WaveRace?

Nintendo loves $$$, thats my guess.
Wii Sports Resort will sell 10 times the amount of what Wave Race would likely sell. Why spend resources on Wave Race, when you can spend them on a game that will sell so many more copies and generate so much more profit?
The way i see it is, if Nintendo really listened to the "core" audience, we would have Kirby Wii, StarFox Wii, Pikmin 3 and maybe even Zelda Wii all already released or nearing release (Q4 2009/ Q1, Q2 2010).
And that is it, i am definately going to bed now
