I honestly don't think most people will buy Christmas presents on September when there is still Thanksgiving coming before it, so they were probably birthday/other commemorative date stuff or simply just coincidences.
The reasoning is simple, Wii has got nothing major exclusively for it, while the other consoles are seeing new models, price cuts and major releases. Even ioi has said that the last week of August will have all 3 consoles at the same levels, so it's easy to assume these will slow the Wii down a bit.
