Well it's up to you guys - otherwise we start to charge a monthly subscription for the data.
Most pages have just four ads and most of the ads on this site (if you are in the US) should be game related, at least for the first ~20 page views per session. You should be seeing good stuff like Batman, Aion, NFL Rush, Metroid Prime Trilogy, World of Warcraft, AT&T, MTV VMAs, Tekken 6, Snickers, Magic the Gathering and loads more - we've worked hard to secure these ads to enable the site to continue to grow and to give you guys good, relevant ads. The better these ads perform, the more of them we will get in the future.
By using adblockers you are basically saying "I'm gonna use this site but not give anything back for doing so" which is your choice, but like I say if things get to a point where the data is no longer free and we have to start generating revenue through memberships then you will have had a hand in that.
If a particular ad annoys you - send me a PM and tell me about it, preferably with a screenshot. Annoying ads are generally either:
1. Someone has put some malicious code in a signature or something 2. An ad network we work with has allowed an ad they shouldn't
In both cases, the problem should be rectified - but you need to tell me about it.
I don't want to be putting out ads that talk or ads that are annoying (and encourage you to tell me about these ads) but the site does need ads to run and when times are slow as they are at the moment we need to do what we can to increase revenues. If 25% of you are using ad blockers we need 4 ads rather than 3 per page and so on. I don't think ads are particularly excessive - no worse than IGN or Gamespot or any other game site. The interstitial and anchor ads should only show once per session and like I say on most pages you should get four ads, except for long pages where we can put an extra one in as well.
Also, without sounding too arsy - one of the issues we've had securing decent ads is that advertisers want to have their ads placed on pages that are of a "high quality" and don't show inappropriate content. Now I have no issue whatsoever with it personally, but the OP's signature doesn't help us when trying to secure these good ads, neither does some of the language used. Unfortunately some of you guys want it all - a free, open site where you can do what you want but don't have to do anything to help it
