First, I think it is a waste as a lot of bets couldn't be automated. Unless a moderator people like kirby with their army of alts would just funnel VG$ into their main account.
Secondly, if you make a bet, you shouldn't be able to hold onto your VG$. It gets thrown in holding until a winner is announced. This is essentially how all betting works. If you didn't take the money ahead of time, who knows if you'd still have it to pay up later.
