Yes, it does!
Actually, I was being facetious, but in all seriousness, having played both Pikmin games in depth, I assure you the gameplay is very similar: LKS is just deeper. There are some downsides to that, but for the most part I actually prefer it to Pikmin. There are no puzzles outside of the boss battles, mind you, but the exploration is much more emphasized, there's a wider variety of enemies (and strategies to use against them), etc.

Don't get it because you want to support Marvelous/X-SEED (even though both are fantastic companies). Get it to support yourself. I know I'm getting tiresome here, but it's honestly one of the best games I've played this generation: in addition to being well-designed, there's clearly so much care and attention lavished into every detail of this title that you can't help but love it. The sense of humor in particular is very well done; no one is safe from lampooning, not even you the player.
The fact that you're taking on undead cow bosses to the William Tell Overture, or deposing a (fellow) tyrant with Bolero from Carmen belting in the background is just icing on a delicious cake.
