Why is everyone so fascinated with old games?

Just my opinion but old school games/mods were gameplay > graphics but now a days its graphics > everything. There are still some gems out there but for the most part the focus is in the wrong spot in my opinion ;)

I don't think that's accurate. If you look at the graphical masterpieces (at least, on consoles) this gen: Uncharted, MGS4, Gears of War, and Super Mario Galaxy (it looks amazing for a Wii game), they are also regarded among the best games in the generation. Crysis is the only real "graphics whore" game that comes to mind, but then look at all of the game on PC that try to be different and ignore graphics.

Really, I'd rather have an amazing game with average graphics than an average game with amazing graphics, but ideally, I want an amazing game with amazing graphics, and we've gotten quite a few of those so far.
