I skipped more than the first two palaces. I used to just completely skip 1&2, then go back and get the items and beat the boss, but not close out the palace, then go to 3 and pick up the raft, jump over to do 4 & 5, then backtrack to place the crystals so I could level up faster.
I'm going to start a VGChartz plays Zelda II: The Adventures of Link thread in a few weeks when I finally get back to playing it again. I need to beat it once more, plus I want to add to the FAQ page on VGChartz.
