The sensor bar is just an infra-red emitter. You can either buy a 3rd party sensor bar that is stronger and gain a few feet, or you can do what irstupid suggested which will give you even more distance.
Also, you could make your own sensor bar and it wouldn't be too hard or expensive if you have the tools and know how to solder.
