A few things.
1) if you are actually uploading those types in FF it does work, but the message shows up anyways. You just need to go back to your album and it will be there.
2) if they are too big (i almost think 2MB is the limit) it will display that message too, or possibly a generic "error" message.
3) Once you have an image uploaded, just go to the edit screen and click the icon that looks like a tree. Then paste the URL in there. From there you can drag the corner to resize while keeping correct ratios. Either that or you could use [ IMG] [ /IMG] tags and just put the URL in those.
