actually, once you get that ad I think you already have the virus.
to prevent from getting the trojan in the first place though, I highly suggest you use firefox and install no-script, and then select the option "allow scripts globally" this way you don't have to mess with no-script all the time, and it disables xss which is how 90% of trojans try to exploit to get on your PC in the first place.
If you can give me more information on what the pop-up says, I may be able to track down proper removal tools to check to see if it is installed on your PC, as most anti-virus software fails to even detect this trojan, however at the moment I can't remember the exact name of it so I can't find the tools.
