Will a movie based off of a videogame ever reach Dark Knight status

I don't understand the appeal of the Dark Knight, was really bored when I saw it, think it was due to the joker who died. V for Vendetta is a good one thanks to the cast, but like VonShigsy says Street Fighter 2 the Animated Movie is the best videogame movie :)
