Everyone wins.

Casual gaming is all well and good, but it will never dethrone hardcore. Yes, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play have sold over 10 million units, that's fine. But I don't think many people go into a store and think "Hmm, Wii Fit or Gears of War?"

As for the whole "companies will only make casual games", this is not true at all. Not all casual games do well, you know. What has sold better, Halo 3 or Wii Music? Only SOME casual games sell well, and those sell extremely well. In the same way, only some hardcore games, like Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War, MGS (It sold well and you know it -.-), Gran Turismo sell well. Haze didn't sell well. Too Human didn't sell well. That's because they sucked.

The whole thing about casual gamers is that they don't buy games as often as the hardcore. If 10 casual games are released in a month, they will not all do well. However, if 5 casual and 5 hardcore are released in a month, the casual games will fare better.

Sure, companies may try only making casual games, but when they see that that fails, they will go back to making both. It's foolish to ignore the casuals, but it's also foolish to ignore the hardcore. They are the ones that buy games based on review scores. They are the ones with brand loyalty. They are the ones who will stick with gaming through thick and thin.
