It wouldn't be the first time I saw a DS in a vending machine. I saw one (1-2 years ago) with ipods, digital cameras, sony headphones, and all sorts of electronics. You couldn't get anything for less than $30. We just played with the cool menu and browsed the products.
EDIT: i just checked the pictures. That one is like a 3rd of the size of the machine I saw.
