Considering the massive sales of Wii fit, and the relatively small fraction of the price that the disc represents, one would be quick to assume that the Wii board will forever come only packaged with Nintendo's fitness software. However, as more and more games (both first and third party) that utilize the peripheral are released, might it not make sense for Nintendo to release the balance board as a stand alone for slightly cheaper?

The main reason for thinking this is demographics. There are probably people out there who are quite interested in Shaun White Snowboarding and Skate it for it's balance board utilization, but aren't interested in Wii fit. Even if the price difference would be small, the phsycological barrier of making that 90 dollar purchase with a game you don't want to just to be able to get the most out of the games you do might prevent some people from buying any of those games.

Or would Nintendo be best to offer some other Balance board bundles? A Shaun White/Balance board bundle would probably attract a fair bit of attention, as might future games that utilize it (Punch Out!! or a Time Crisis).

To be honest, I don't know if Nintendo will ever release the peripheral stand alone for on the shelf retail, but I think it might be beneficial to reaching wider demographics if they did.
