We all know here Wii games tend to have smaller opening weeks than most HD games, but they make up for that with long legs.
However, inspired by this thread, I looked up the biggest third party Wii launches. I managed to find 6 games that had what can be called "big openings":
|
1 |
Dragon Quest Swords |
341k with Others numbers can be as high as 360k |
|
2 |
Star Wars: Force Unleashed |
297k with Japan numbers can be as high as 300k |
|
3 |
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics |
265k |
|
4 |
Guitar Hero III |
276k |
|
5 |
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles |
241k |
|
6 |
Red Steel |
143k with Others numbers can be as high as 250k |
Some surprising results here!
1) I didn't hear anyone about the great first week numbers (especially in Japan) for Dragon Quest Swords. It it were a PS3 game, it would have the 9th highest opening week on the system.
2) What do you think Others numbers are for the first week of Red Steel? If it's somewhere around 100k (which I think is probable), it had a huge launch considering it was a third party launch game.
3) The game with the biggest launch on the list is also the only game that isn't a million seller yet --> ultimate proof that legs are more important than big launches?
