Nintendo expected it to be successful,but they didn't expect it to be this successful,otherwise they would have been producing 2.4 million consoles a month.
Plus Nintendo didn't expect to sell all those consoles in the first three month's,they probably wouldn't ship them all if it wasn't for the successful launch that it had.
