VGChartz only tracks and displays retail sales on the game pages. It is quite possible that it has sold more than VGChartz has listed due to the fact that it is possible to purchase it through the PSN.

Therefore, VGChartz may or may not be off, but showing the total number of online users proves nothing, other than if VGChartz overtracked.

Leaderboards can give you a good idea if the game is over/undertracked.

considering the ONLY mode of play is online multi-player it's pretty safe to say the number is close to 680k.  The only way they didn't get ranked is if they played every game in private servers (even 1 game in an official server would do it) or if they bought the game and just never played it.  Both of those are pretty unlikely.

 

read the bolded part, then go to the PSN and see if you can buy it online. Put the two together, and you will see that leaderboards only show if the game is overtracked. There could be 0 retail sales, and 600k online sales. How does the leaderboard prove that this is wrong?
